Sugar Mountain Builds a New House

After years of planning, wishes, hopes, and dreams, we are in the process of building a new house.  We hired D. Neuroth to come out and do the excavation and dozer work to clear the building site.  The work was done well.  We bought a package home at a very reasonable price from Lucky Discount Lumber in Mansfield, and they had a crew come out and build the outside of it for us.  The crew was fantastic, they put the house up in 10 working days, and they did an excellent job.  They walked 1/2 mile up the hill when the snow was so deep that they couldn't get their pickup up the side of our mountain.  They worked in some really cold weather on some of the days they were here.  You can find them at:  Lucky Discount Lumber

They have other packages, but we went with post & beam foundation, with 40-yr metal rustic red siding, and 40-yr metal roof.  Roof and trim are in arctic white.  The 40-yr metal means 40-yr warranty.  Posts and beams are all treated lumber.  We added 3 extra windows and a sliding glass patio door.  We also chose a half-porch in front with a full roof across.  Our outdoor wood furnace and firewood will go under the rest of the porch roof, and our firewood will stay dry.  We had a dozer come in and build a "pad" for the house site.  Then the builders came in.  As I said, they were great.

Now, Lee is in the process of finishing the inside of the house with some miscellaneous labor help from our boys.  We ordered 2 storm shelters to cover the community just in case of need.  Tornado season can get pretty wild here.  They were delivered and set in the ground 3/25/2011.  We ordered them from SI Precast Concrete in Mountain Grove.  http://www.siprecast.com  Backhoe work was courtesy of Kevin Harker.
