Another holiday is done now.  Christmas was quiet here, but we still had a good one.  Yes, for those inquiring minds that want to know, the homestead is still for sale.  January will be a very busy month for us, as we have several doctor appointments already scheduled, plus several other things listed on the calendar already.  Wishing all a Happy New Year, and we hope and pray that 2015 is a much better year for all of us!

We had a small Thanksgiving but a good one here.  Big turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes (and a few baked potatoes for the mister), gravy, carrots, green bean casserole, and pies -- pumpkin, apple, and gooseberry.  It was a great meal and a very good day.

For those with questions, yes, the homestead is still for sale.

We have had a few very good inquiries that sound promising but nothing serious yet.  We're still praying about it, and we figure it will sell if and when it's supposed to -- and go to the family that's meant to be here.

Hope everybody else had a great Thanksgiving too.

After a couple of requests, I did add a photo of the shop and lean-to barn attached.

A little more information:  We don't have 911 addresses out here, just a rural route address.  In other words, you can't use Google Earth, Google maps, Yahoo maps, or your GPS locator to find directions to our door.

The private drive is 1/2 mile long, and it's rough in spots.  Yes, it can be navigated by a car, as we have friends that do it.  Some of the neighbors own 2-wheel-drive vehicles (vans, cars), and they also navigate the drive.

Depending on the cell phone provider, some cell phones work out here and some don't.  We do have DSL internet, and there are other high-speed internet providers including satellite internet, Centurylink, and I believe Dish TV.

Hibernation for the winter is about the only excuse I can give.  We had a longer and colder winter than is normal around here, and now I believe we have jumped right from winter to summer with very little spring in between.

We have managed to have our spring flowers blooming, but like I said, it didn't seem like we had much spring in between our winter and now summer temperatures.

We have had several storms already, including tornado warnings, which the worst of the weather seems to have gone around us.  (Thank God!)  We do have our tornado shelters, just in case.

Greenhouse is going good, full of tomatoes, lettuce, radishes, cabbages, snow peas, carrots, all kinds of good things.  He has been planting outside garden for weeks now.  We've been eating salads out of the greenhouse for weeks.  Mmmm..

This past few months has been very busy and very stressful sometimes.  We'll get through everything, though.  I will try to post more often!

A foot of snow!

Very unusual for us to get much snow at all during a winter, and winter hasn't even officially started (according to the calendar).  Yet, we have a good foot of snow on the ground...  and on everything else.

He has spent a lot of time clearing snow off the greenhouse, shoveling snow away from the greenhouse, clearing snow off of the solar panels, clearing the ramps, etc.  

Along with our snow, we have had very cold temperatures.  It was 7 degrees out when I got up this morning.  We were ready for the storm.  He had a lot of firewood in under the porch roof.  He always does, but he brought up more just in case.  Luckily, we didn't have a power outage, but we were ready for that too, in case it happened.  I hope this is the last big winter blast we will see for a very long while.

I guess that getting my Heritage card and getting my deer tags for the last couple of years has been a good thing!  I was one of two women standing in line to get my tag, although the line was a long one.  I should have gotten it well before deer season but waited until just a few days before it started.

Anyway, This is what happened yesterday:

This deer is all processed and in the deep freeze now.  Sister came up to help, so we sent some of the meat home with her also.  Processing was a chore by itself, as it always is; but I'm happy.

Been a busy month around here.  He has been working on getting firewood up to the house for the furnace here.  I think he believes you can never have enough firewood.  I think we might have enough to last a few days.

He also had a nice indoor project to work on.  Since he decided he's not going to heat the greenhouse all winter, he wanted someplace to put all the house plants that we've accumulated in there.  As always, he came up with a solution and built places for them inside the house here.  

I think we have plants in every room of our house now, except for the utility room and the pantry.  They look nice, though, and I'm glad we won't have to heat the greenhouse for the houseplants AND we won't have to give up the houseplants.  I've been happy to have a mostly quiet month without having any extra travel thrown in, other than our normal shopping and lab appointment days. We'll be getting ready for holidays pretty soon.  Fortunately, no travel plans there!
