Vertical Can Rotation Rack
This has been one of his July projects. It was built mostly out of scrap lumber left over from the pantry and utility room shelves. He built it yesterday afternoon after yard mowing and chores. It will hold 120 cans. That's 10 cases of store-bought canned goods. He got the idea from a picture he saw on the internet, but changed the size to fit our pantry. It's hung on the south wall of the pantry as of this afternoon.
First he figured out the space he had available on that wall. Then he took the two tallest store-bought cans of food out of our cabinets to use as a guide. One was pie filling; the other was refried beans. So he figured out how many cans would fit in that space, added in how much space the lumber would take up, and adjusted accordingly.
Started at the top and the bottom to make sure it's all lined up nice and even and spaced correctly.
Then he finished putting the back on.
Small beveled kick-outs for the bottom to make sure the cans don't get stuck.
Add a bottom tray to catch the cans.
Not a bad project for an afternoon's work and a good way to use up a lot of the scraps from the pantry and utility shelves. It always amazes me that he can look at a picture and build something from just looking at the picture. And he makes modifications that will improve it and fit it into our home.
This particular vertical can rotation rack is hanging on a very substantial sturdy wall in our pantry. If you didn't have a very sturdy wall to hang it on, it could be built smaller or built out of lighter lumber.
